Maintaining a healthy weight is the number one secret to having healthy knees. Apart from knee pain sustained through accident, repetitive motion that stresses the knee or ageing, knee pain is mostly caused by excess body weight, as every extra weight you put on adds more pressure on your knees. That is why knee pain is more common with overweight people. It often starts after they have put on much weight. The symptoms improve once they shed the extra weight, and sometimes the knee pain even disappears with the extra weight.

However, there are some steps that you can take to avoid knee pain and injuries. Some of them include:

Physical therapy: If you have a knee injury or pain, consider visiting a physical therapist that can help you set up an appropriate regime that would help you fight off the challenge.

Wear sensible foot wears: Wearing foot wears that are of good fitting would help you to maintain proper leg alignment and balance. This would ultimately protect your knee and prevent it from any injury.

Exercise regularly: Exercise is one of the ways you can use to tackle knee pain issues, but always make sure you do low-impact exercises. If you go to the gym to work out, always use exercise equipment that won’t have too much impact on your knees. The cross trainer or rowing machine should be your cardio, as both of them offer a strong workout with low impact to your knees.

Warm-up: Always warm-up before starting any exercise, warm up and then do stretches. If you stretch the muscles in the front and back of your thighs, it decreases tension on your tendons, ultimately relieving pressure on the knees. Don’t also forget to cool down and stretch after you are done with your exercise.

Maintain healthy weight: Extra weight can increase your chances of developing knee pain. Maintain a weight that is appropriate for your size and age. it would help to reduce the risk of knee injury
