Benin – A former coach of the Golden Eaglet, Godwin Izilein, on Monday said that the Super Eagles victory against the Cameroonian national team, should not be taken to mean “the Eagles have arrived.’’

The Eagles on Sunday defeated the Indomitable Lions 3-0 in an international friendly in Belgium as part of Eagles preparation for the World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers.

Izilein said in Benin that although the Eagles won the match, they committed lots of mistakes during the match.

The former coach observed that the mistakes included Eagles streams of faulty passes and play.

“I had expected a sharp improvement from our match against Congo but what I saw against Cameroon wasn’t encouraging.

“The passes were not only faulty but questionable as well.

“We must not lose the fact that much work needs to be done on the team.

“Even though we won, we didn’t play well and for the fact that we played against 10 players,” he said.

Izilein who had also once handled the Super Falcons, said he had expected Coach Sunday Oliseh to use the same players that lost the friendly match against DR Congo.

“Yes, this would have provided a better opportunity for the players to understand themselves and for proper blending.

“I hope the team continues to improve as it progresses,” he noted.

Izilein urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to arrange top level friendly matches for the team for better result.

“Let us see the Eagles play good matches once again. I want to see the Eagles play like they used to during Kanu (Nwankwo) and others,’’ he said.

The Eagles had earlier lost their first friendly game against Congo also in Belgium by two goals to nil.
