Man arrested with fake $2.1million at Lagos airport

45-year old Lawrence Agbe (pictured above) was yesterday July 7th arrested by security officials at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos while trying to transport fake dollar bills totaling $2.1 million from Lagos to Abuja.

  

While speaking on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police for the command, Mr. Fredrick Lakanu, said during interrogation Lawrence said the fake dollar bills were owned by one Steve.

"After further interrogation, the suspect mentioned one Steve residing in Abuja as the owner of the said €1.25m. But Steve is at large.”CP Lakanu said

Gov Ambode orders enforcement of law prohibiting street trading, begging in Lagos

There's already an existing law in Lagos prohibiting street trading and begging in the state but people still do it. But today, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode directed the Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Other Special Offences to carry out full enforcement of the law restricting it

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, the governor asked street traders to go sell their wares in the markets, that if they continue to sell on the streets, they will be arrested and prosecuted. 
     
  

"At the State Security Council Meeting on July 7, it was resolved that the act of street trading that has continued to hamper free flow of traffic on Lagos roads which further constitutes nuisance and security threat to law abiding citizens will no longer be tolerated. Therefore, street traders and buyers will henceforth be arrested and prosecuted. The Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences has been mandated to ensure the Law of the State against street trading is enforced to the letter”

About the beggers, the governor said;

“We’ve had security reports on the activities of persons who pose as beggars, especially in traffic, but their sole aim is to perpetrate evil. We are putting a search light on this trend and one way to do that is to ensure that we take preemptive measures to forestall this development” 

Photos: Hoodlums vandalise vehicles, injure residents in Ifako-Gbagada

No fewer than 5 people sustained injuries when armed hoodlums attacked residents of Moshalashi & Salawu Onikoyi streets at Ifako-Gbagada area of Lagos. It was learned that the hoodlums, numbering about 30, stormed the streets, beginning from Barracks Bus Stop, attacking ATM Users at UBA (were armed men were amazingly absent), traders & vandalizing vehicles parked on the street.
  
The incident saw residents scampering for safety, while the hoodlums robbed passers-by of their belongings and valuables at gunpoint.  
 
Residents of Moshalashi and Salawu Onikoyi streets at Ifako-Gbagada area of Lagos State are appealing to the police to rescue them from incessant harassment and attacks by hoodlums.

They alleged that the hoodlums often invaded their streets from Oworonshoki, the hideouts of cultists. The policemen from Ifako Division always appear after havoc has been wrecked, the residents want regular police presence to deter the hoodlums from further attacks on them, especially as the hoodlums always staged a return after the police had left.

Recounting his ordeal in the hands of the hoodlums, Mr. Idris Tola, a staff of an Energy firm, said he was attacked as he made to drive into his house at Onasanya Street, at about 11:00pm.

Another victim, Iya Dami, a food seller dealer, said the hoodlums burgled her shop and took away her apron full of cash, power generator set.

On Monday, 6 July, the Old Ballroom of the Oriental Hotel in Lagos was the scene of an extravagant display of colour, glitz and glamour as the entertainment industry’s finest came out to celebrate the launch of Africa Magic’s new sitcom, Do-Good. 

The event which was anchored by popular stand-up comic and actor, Bovi, had in attendance Nollywoodstars like Kate Henshaw, EmemIsong, BasorgeTariah jnr., Charles Novia, Ini Edo, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Funmi Holder, SegunArinze and Toyin Aimakhu amongst many others.

Speaking at the launch, the Regional Director, M-Net West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, said: “At Africa Magic we are dedicated to creating and showcasing the best content made by Africa for Africans. It is also in line with this that we are launching Do-Good, a first of its kind Pidgin-English sitcom airing on Africa Magic Urban,which promises to be a hit with comedy lovers across the continent.”

Do-Good is a spin-off of the popular 1990s Nigerian drama series, Candlelight, and features the exploits of the titular character Do-good, played by Tariah, who returns from his travels abroad to woo his sweetheart Emem, a character played by popular Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw. The show is the latest in the line of exciting content that continues to appear on the Africa Magic channels like The Johnsons, another popular sitcom; Highlites with IK; Hotel Majestic and other viewer favourites like Tinsel, Jara, and 53 Extra.

Monday’s show featured performances from rave of the moment musician Kiss Daniel, who thrilled the audience with his hit tracks, and stand-up comicsMongKals and Don OkiemuteIruvwe, who also feature as recurring cast members on Do-Good.

Mba-Uzoukwu added: “It is an exciting time for Africa Magic as Do-Good marks a return to television for KateHenshaw and BasorgeTariah Jnr.
