Congo have not been as successful as Nigeria in the Games as they have only two gold medals and one silver medal to show for their appearances in table tennis.
With the likes of Nigerians Saheed Idowu, Saka Suraju, Onyiyechi Nwachukwu and Chinese Yang Fen, Han Xing, Hu Bin, Wang Jianan and Li Yuheng in their ranks, the hosts are prepared to win as much medals as possible.

But Oshonaike believes that the Congolese team does not have the players to challenge the Nigerian players.

“Congo could have recruited new Chinese for the Games, but the ones they recruited are not the right ones that can give us a problem,” she said on Thursday.

“I have played against them at the two tournaments we went to this year in Egypt and Cameroon and they are not really up to our standards.

“They can’t measure up in their country that is why they are looking for opportunities elsewhere. Congo can’t give us a tough time like the Egyptians.

“The Nigerians in their ranks are people we are familiar with too so Congo can’t pose much problem to us.”

She also expressed confidence in the team’s preparation for the Games saying the players are showing signs of improvement.

She said, “Although we didn’t camp outside the country like our opponents but we are managing what we have and the players are showing that they are ready to take up the challenge and win some medals for the country.”
